Concessionary Travel Passes and 'Smart' buses

Following successful trials on our buses we are introducing the 'Smart' system for Concessionary Travel Pass holders on all of our buses over the next few months.

Buses from our Yardley Wood garage are already using the system and it is scheduled to be introduced on buses from our Acocks Green, Walsall and Perry Barr garages during July. Buses from West Bromwich, Pensnett, Wolverhampton, Birmingham Centrel and Bordesley garages will start using the system during August with buses from Coventry garage joining in in early September.

  • Using your Concessionary Travel Pass on Smart busesUsing your Concessionary Travel Pass on Smart buses is straight forward, you can even keep the pass in its wallet. Simply touch the pass flat onto the reader. You only need to do this once - when you board the bus.When you place your pass onto the reader you should see a green light and hear a beep - this shows that your pass is working correctly.

Using your Concessionary Travel Pass on other buses:

  • If your bus has not yet been fitted with the new pass reader, continue to show your pass to the driver as you do now.
  • Whether you are travelling on a 'Smart' bus or any other bus you should be ready to show your Concessionary Travel Pass to authorised staff or ticket inspectors if requested at any time during your journey.[youtube:42CLFgRFrGA]Find out more
