30 New Buses for Travel West Midlands
Travel West Midlands today announced that it was purchasing another 30 new buses. This further £4m of extra investment in the fleet was hailed today by TWM’s Chief Executive, Brian Jackson, as ’exciting and significant’.Travel West Midlands is the leading bus operator in the West Midlands employing more than 5,000 staff and operating across the whole of the West Midlands County.Brian Jackson, Chief Executive, said today: "This latest announcement is a very significant investment for TWM reconfirming the commitment of the private sector to quality public transport in the West Midlands.We have been modernising our fleet at very quick speed. With this further announcement we have accelerated our pace yet again by awarding Transbus International a further order for 30 new low floor easy access double deck buses. This will bring 170 new low floor buses into our fleet this year, a record to be proud of.TWM is a bus operator that is committed to quality. We have in a very short time changed the face of public transport in the West Midlands. We now operate a complete network of low floor easy access buses on each and every Sunday.In Coventry we have invested in new modern and efficient high capacity low floor easy access bendi buses to the delight of our partners at the City Council.We are lifting the image of our local districts we operate within considerably by the introduction of bright new buses. This new order of buses will be built in the UK, with the chassis constructed in Guildford and the body fitted in Falkirk. We are excited by this new development as we know it will have a huge impact upon our customers and within our operating areas.All these buses will come with state of the art CCTV, and the latest environmentally friendly engines. The engines are ’lean and green’ providing the Cities and Towns we serve with fewer emissions making them much more environmentally acceptable for residents and our customers alike." This year Travel West Midlands already introduced 20 new double deck vehicles and 10 new bendi buses to Travel Coventry services.Again this year we have already introduced 110 new Volvo and Transbus double deck vehicles across bus services in Birmingham and the Black Country. With this new order for 30 extra vehicles from Transbus International, this will have lifted the investment made by Travel West Midlands in new buses to £24 million in this year.
