A Jewel of a Prize for Competition Winner

A lucky bus user was celebrating this week after receiving a pair of handcrafted cufflinks, worth more than £300, which she won in a competition.Jayne Phillips, from Bearwood, entered the competition via Travel West Midlands’ website which was ran in conjunction with the Jewellery Quarter and Marketing Birmingham. The prize was a piece of handmade jewellery worth more than £300, which included a piece of enamelling designed as part of the winning entry. After Jayne chose cufflinks to be made, Jewellery Quarter designer and enameller Dayna White got to work.Dayna, who is based in Vyse Street, has worked in the jewellery industry for around 18 years and has been based in the Jewellery Quarter for 5 years. She crafted the cufflinks over 20 hours and her enamelling skills were put to the test as she painstakingly painted the picture of the famous Jewellery Quarter clock on each one.Jayne Phillips said she was really pleased with the finished piece, she added: "They were unique and the time spent in making them was astonishing."The detail was precise and what makes them very special is that they, in colour are not totally identical which I thinks adds to their uniqueness."Dayna, who has also produced pieces for the King of Spain, said: "It was nice to make the cufflinks and to actually see them through from start to finish."Obviously working on small items can be quite awkward but it’s lovely to see the finished piece."Pictured: Stuart Henry, Travel West Midlands’ Corporate Affairs Manager; winner Jayne Phillips with her unique handmade cufflinks and Dayna White who handmade the jewellery.
