Bus Company Helps School with Topic!
Peterbrook School visited Travel West Midlands Yardley Wood Garage on Tuesday 27th March, the visit was arranged to support the children’s topic Things that move. Peterbrook School is a local Primary School situated on the High Street, Solihull Lodge, Shirley. Lee Allen General Manager Yardley Wood said "The same school visited the garage last year and met with the Depot Management team. The school felt that the visit last year was very successful and had arranged for a similar visit this year. There were 43 children and 10 adults that attended in total. Just to make things a little different we used our 1950’s vintage double deck rear loading heritage vehicle, 3225 to collect the children from the school and transport them to Yardley Wood garage." Phil Bateman Corporate Affairs Director said "I thought that the nicest touch was that the depot management team had a cake baked in the shape of a bus and this was presented to the school which further delighted our visitors!Contact with young people through education is recognised as an important role here in Travel West Midlands, which is part of the giant National Express Group. The company is pleased that Lee and his team have forged such strong links with this local school and we hope to welcome them back again next year. It is through education projects that we can build future passenger growth and also play a role in shaping and encouraging children’s attitude towards public transport. Our whole ethos here is geared towards making travel simpler.?- Travel West Midlands operating through another Education Project the SMART Schools Project have visited 64 schools in the West Midlands County over the last two years, explaining about services and encouraging ’good citizenship’.- 30 million school journeys are undertaken by students using TWM services during the course of the year.
