Bus Company’s a ’Wheely’ Good Sport
Travel West Midlands is supporting a ’wheely’ good cause by offering £250 sponsorship to the ’Wobblers & Wheelies Sports Club for the Disabled’ based at Foxhollies Leisure Centre in Acocks Green. The Company was approached by one of its bus drivers based at Yardley Wood Garage recently. Ian Partridge, an amputee, is a member of the club and asked Travel West Midlands if it could offer any financial assistance.John Davis, Chairman of the Wobblers & Wheelies Club, said: "Our club caters for physically disabled people in the Birmingham area. Over the last 20 years it has been a very successful club run and funded by disabled people. The Dry Sports side caters for pool, table tennis, short mat bowls, dart, dominoes, chess and other board games. There is also the use of a swimming pool and instructors. We were looking for sponsorship so that members of the club can compete in competitions around the region and were very happy when Travel West Midlands offered £250.Phil Bateman, Travel West Midlands’ Corporate Affairs Director, said: "When Ian approached us to ask for support we were more than happy to offer some financial assistance. This club is a very valuable community based facility and we hope that it continues to go from strength to strength."
