Bus Driver of the Year - Local Qualifying Competition

Travel West Midlands has held its local qualifying competition for Bus Driver of the Year 2003 which is due to take place in Blackpool on 7th September 2003. Twenty two Travel West Midlands’ bus drivers took part in the local competition at the Company’s Sports & Social Stadium in Kings Heath. All competing drivers had to endure a written test which covered the Highway Code, Legal Responsibilities & Mechanical Principles, driving manoeuvres including braking exercises, bay stop manoeuvre and chicane reducing cones, a speed check and an on-road driving assessment. Overall winner was Stephen Wilkes from Wolverhampton Garage, Jeremy Jenkins from Pensnett Garage came second and Neil Talbot from Hockley Garage came third.Travel West Midlands’ Training Manager, William Shaw, said: "Travel West Midlands’ prides itself on the quality of its training and all competitors displayed utmost professionalism on the day. The first three competitors are going to represent the Company at the National Bus Driver of the Year 2003 competition being held in Blackpool later this year."Travel West Midlands is offering the winning drivers the chance to win a trophy and a £500 cash prize and National Express has offered the highest placed Travel West Midlands or Travel Dundee entrant the chance to win a trophy and £500 cash.
