Bus Shuttle for Book Bash Golden Jubilee Celebrations
Travel West Midlands will be providing a special shuttle bus service on Bank Holiday Monday, 3rd June 2002, for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations in Birmingham City Centre, ’The Lord Mayor’s Show Comes to Town.’The Company has agreed to provide its two specially painted Golden Jubilee easy access double deck buses to transport people free of charge from Birmingham City Centre to the Big Bonanza Book Bash at Aston Hall. The shuttle service will run from King Edwards Road/Cambridge Street (off Broad Street) to Aston Hall every 20 minutes (40 minutes before 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm) from 11.00 am until 5.00 pm.Phil Bateman, Travel West Midlands’ Corporate Affairs Director, said: "There’s lots going on in Birmingham City Centre for the Golden Jubilee celebrations and we wanted our specially painted commemorative buses to be a part of this very special occasion. Birmingham City Council has pulled out all the stops to provide a brilliant programme of entertainment and I’m sure the National Book Festival will prove to be popular."The Big Bonanza Book Bash is part of Young Readers UK organised by Birmingham Libraries. Patsy Heap, Birmingham Libraries’ Head of Children, Youth & Education, said: "The Book Bash is a fantastic event for children and young people and is packed with performances from writers, poets and storytellers. This shuttle bus service will give families the chance to experience this part of the festival first hand."
