Bus Students Learning Curve

Travel West Midlands provided a bus free of charge for Brandon Wood Farm - and it certainly was a learning curve for students!Brandon Wood Farm, based in Brandon, near Coventry, is a vocational training centre for adults with learning difficulties operated by Coventry Social Services Department. As part of their ’Travel Training’, Travel West Midlands provided a bus so that students could familiarise themselves with all aspects of bus travel.June Toulson, Unit Leader, explained: "Travel Training is a comprehensive training package delivered by Community Education which helps students with learning difficulties to move forward in life. Part of the training involves getting the students out and about and anticipating and learning how to overcome potential hazards along the way. Having a bus to ourselves for a couple of hours is great because students can learn about all aspects of bus travel before they venture out on their own."Bernard Delaney, TWM’s Area Director South, said: "We were more than happy to provide a vehicle for this very worthwhile training. TWM carries members of the public from all sections of the community and the benefits of learning how to use a bus first hand will, I’m sure, instil confidence in the students."Twenty students in total took part in the training exercise. Debbie Beaumont, Tutor, would like to make contact with anyone that might be able to provide personal panic alarms for students. Contact Brandon Wood Farm on 024 7654 5385.
