Buses Play their Part in Armistice Day

11 November 2006 at 11.00amAs with the recent past tradition travel West Midlands will once again prepare for 2 minutes silence on Armistice Day.Drivers are being asked to pull to the side of the road where safe to do so, to allow 2 minutes silence to take place at 11.00am.Reminders to drivers will be given as 11.00am approaches. The Royal British Legion has been surveying the public. It is being reported that they are quoting "more than 80% will say it with silence this Saturday."Phil Bateman Corporate Affairs Director said "A Royal British Legion survey has revealed that the Two Minute Silence is still overwhelmingly relevant to Britons of all ages today. Questioning nearly 1,500 adults on behalf of The Royal British Legion, YouGov researchers found that:- 85% of Britons still think that the Two Minute Silence is relevant today.- 81% of 18-29 year olds agreed that this year’s silence is relevant to them.- Over half of those surveyed said that during the silence they would be thinking of all conflicts, past and present.- 30-50 year olds were the most likely age group to associate the silence with the cost of conflict, past and present.- Those in the over 50 age group were more likely to think of those who had given their lives during WW1 and WW2There has been a tradition here at Travel where we have long supported Armistice Day with a two minutes silence, I know that as a company we feel very proud of the part we play in this national day of Remembrance."The Royal British Legion, is planning a mass participation Two Minute Silence event in Trafalgar Square at 11am on 11th November, There are of course other ceremonies being planned right across the UK.
