Cheque for Coventry Bus Link

A cheque for £60,000 has been handed over today to Coventry City Council, by Travel West Midlands as a contribution towards the £200,000 bus link in Gosford Street. The Bus Link is unique for Coventry, as it is the first time that Travel West Midlands has made a contribution towards the cost of a junction improvement within the City.Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, Councillor John McNicholas says:"It is great to be receiving this cheque for £60,000 towards the Gosford Street junction improvement. As the scheme is working really well in giving priority to buses and cycles, I see it as money well spent and hope that this first contract will certainly not be the last, but will open up other partnership opportunities with TWM for bus improvements in other areas of the City."Bernard Delaney, Managing Director at Travel Coventry, said:"The new bus link has greatly improved the reliability on several of our key routes serving the City Centre and this benefits passengers, and our drivers, immensely. This is our first contribution to this type of initiative in Coventry. We look forward to working in partnership with the Council and contributing further towards similar projects which promote bus priority in Coventry."The Bus Link which has been in operation since early November 2001, has improved public transport by giving priority to buses and cycles, by assisting outbound buses to go from Gosford Street to Far Gosford Street without negotiating the Sky Blue Way roundabout, which has helped to reduce bus journey times.
