National Express launches campaign to drive down Birmingham's carbon footprint
National Express has launched a major marketing to campaign to encourage car users to consider the environmental impact of driving. A massive new advertising campaign, using over 100 locations across the city centre, features high impact billboards proclaiming “Stuck in traffic? One bus removes up to 50 cars off the road.” The posters aim to address Birmingham’s growing congestion problems and persuade more people to trial the bus. Sue Gee, Marketing Manager for National Express bus, said: “Buses are the solution to Birmingham’s congestion problems and we want to highlight the huge environmental benefits public transport can bring. As well as removing up to 50 cars from the road, buses also help to drive down the carbon emissions generated by travellers across Birmingham. The more people who choose public transport, the faster and cleaner all our journeys become.” As part of National Express' commitment to providing environmentally friendly travel options all new buses in their fleet are fitted with euro five engines - the cleanest on the market. At the start of the year National Express also revealed it had been successful in bidding for 20 of the latest hybrid buses. A joint bid for £1.3 million in funding by National Express and transport authority Centro was given the go ahead by the Department for Transport as part of its Green Bus Fund. The money will enable a fleet of 20 buses equipped with the latest fuel efficient, low polluting engines to be put into operation on the 22 and 23 routes operating to the south of the city.
