Operation Safer Travel - Cracking the Problem of Crime
Operation Safer Travel has been once again very active on the presentation front. More than nine schools in Birmingham and Coventry have been visited in the first 6 weeks of 2003. Stuart Henry, Operation Safer Travel Co-ordinator, said: "Reported incidents to our bus division indicate that crime, vandalism and graffiti on buses is generally committed by 12 to 20 years olds. One of our biggest problems that we have as a bus operator is the damage that is caused by the indiscriminate stone throwing that takes place. We are trying to educate children that this is not a prank, it is dangerous, and it needs to be stopped. It puts passengers in danger and it also badly disrupts bus services."
