Operation Safer Travel - Erdington Police

Travel West Midlands and West Midlands Police held a ’gateway check’ at Gravelly Hill, Erdington on the 18th October 2002. 68 buses were stopped and checked and more than 2,000 passengers had their tickets and bus passes checked by TWM Revenue Inspectors. 11 passengers had their travelcards withdrawn for more investigations and 34 standard fare cards (£10 fines) were issued. Stuart Henry, Travel West Midlands Operation Safer Travel Co-Ordinator said: "This was a successful high profile partnership operation with West Midlands Police. We expect to recover £340 from passengers who cheated on their fares. West Midlands Police from Erdington Police Station arrested 2 persons during the ’gateway check’ for possession of drugs. There will be more of these operations taking place right across the West Midlands County in the run-up to Christmas."
