Operation Safer Travel - News Update
Travel West Midlands has a very active partnership with West Midlands Police called Operation Safer Travel. Our target is to ensure that we deliver a crime free environment both for bus passengers and our staff. Where we do experience a problem and West Midlands Police arrest individuals we are committed as a Company to press for the full judicial process to be invoked. Phil Bateman, Corporate Affairs Director said: "On the 3rd October 2002 at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court a youth, jointly with Ian Antony Phidd, was ordered to pay compensation to Travel West Midlands of £300, following the destruction of light fittings and seats on a Travel West Midlands bus in Queen Street, Wolverhampton on the 27th September 2002. Also on the 1st October 2002 at Sutton Coldfield Magistrates Court, Daniel Jon Sirett was ordered to pay Travel West Midlands £75.00 compensation having being found guilty of criminal damage. We are pleased that the Police and the Magistrates in these two incidents have taken such a firm line with regard to enforcing the law".
