Passengers Increase in Wolverhampton
More people are using buses in Wolverhampton than they were this time last year. Travel West Midlands, the largest bus operator in the area, says that initial figures for January to March 2003 indicate an increase of 5% over the equivalent period for 2002.The 560 Wolverhampton to Bloxwich route which utilises extensive bus lanes close to the City Centre has shown an increase of 12%.Steve Jasper, Service Standards Director at Travel West Midlands, commented: "We are very pleased with the figures so far this year. They reflect our investment in new vehicles but are also due in no small way to the numerous bus priority measures that have been introduced in and around the City Centre over the last few years. The vision of the Council in introducing measures that reduce bus journey time and improve reliability for passengers is to be applauded. We look forward to working with them in extending these type of facilities and making Wolverhampton a safer, more attractive and environmentally pleasing place to live."
