Revenue Staff Awarded for Police Work
Travel West Midlands Revenue Team were celebrating after being given prestigious awards by West Midlands Police.The Special Recognition Awards were given to ten TWM Inspectors and support staff for their work with the police on ’Gateway Checks’ throughout last year.Chief Constable Paul Scott Lee presented the awards at a ceremony on Thursday, January 30, at The Stadium, Kings Heath.The Gateway Checks, which are a vital part of the Operation Safer Travel initiative, see police and inspector presence on particular routes throughout the West Midlands which have been identified as hotspots for criminal activity. TWM Corporate Affairs Manager Stuart Henry said: "We are pleased that our Revenue Inspectors and support staff have been recognised with such a prestigious award. The team are totally committed and show excellent dedication to their roles on a daily basis. Our work with West Midlands Police increased dramatically during 2003 and this work has contributed to a safer bus network in the West Midlands."There were 171 Gateway Checks in 2003, a 48% increase on 2002.Operation Safer Travel is a unique partnership which has seen Travel West Midlands join forces with West Midlands Police to combat crime, vandalism and graffiti on its buses.
