Safer Travel Leaflet in Urdu

As part of the Operation Safer Travel (OST) Partnership, Travel West Midlands have today released a new Urdu translated OST information leaflet.The new leaflet has been produced to raise the profile of the award winning anti-crime partnership amongst the Asian Community in the Birmingham area. Readers will be able to gain information about the latest OST initiatives, CCTV, Schools Liaison and Gateway Checks.Martin Nixon, Garage Director at Lea Hall Garage said, "We have produced several thousand of the Urdu leaflets as part of a pilot scheme, in which we are trying to get the safer travel message across to different communities and at the same time raise awareness of our partnership as a whole."The leaflets will soon be available in Health Centres, libraries, schools and Community Centres. The main areas to be targeted are Small Heath, Alum Rock, Bordesley Green and Sparkhill.The original idea and concept for the Urdu translated leaflet came from a bus driver at Travel West Midlands, Lea Hall Garage. The driver became the first TWM employee to be awarded the "OST Mark of Excellence" Certificate for the idea and other positive work within his community (November 2003).Operation Safer Travel is an award winning partnership between Travel West Midlands and West Midlands Police.
