Service Diversions at Stone Cross

A number of Travel West Midlands’ services will be affected due to resurfacing work which is scheduled to take place on Stone Cross gyratory and will involve temporary road closures and contra flow systems. The council will be laying an anti-skid surface over 8 weeks, which is weather dependant, but it is anticipated the work will be carried out between 7th Februay and 31st March, 2005. This will require the closure of the north part of Stone Cross gyratory and will take place on week days in the 8 weeks during off-peak hours (9.30am to 3.30pm) It will affect the 410 which will be normal line of route to Hall Green Road, then it will go down Walsall Road, u-turn back on itself and up to Stone Cross. There will also be a diversion in place for the closure of the Stone Cross north, west and south stretches of the gyratory and Hall Green Road which will be operational for approximately 3 Sundays and will also include a contra-flow system. It will affect the 404 service which won’t be on diversion but using the contra flow system. Also the 410 service will be on a diversion via Beverley Road, Westminster Road and then normal line of route to Wednesbury. On the return the 410 will use Westminster Road, Beverley Road, Walsall Road, Charlemont Road, Hollyhedge Road and then normal line of route. The 405 will also be affected. When it comes out of Beacon View Road it will have to turn right on the dual carriage way and miss out Stone Cross. Therefore the following services will be affected: 410: West Bromwich to Wednesbury (during the 8 week, off-peak resurfacing and the Sunday closure)404: Walsall to Blackheath (Sunday closure)405: West Bromwich to Walsall via Charlemont Farm (Sunday closure) Emma Needle, Travel West Midlands’ Corporate Affairs Officer, said: "We will be working closely with Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council to minimise the disruption to our passengers during the works. It is anticipated that there will be slight delays to services but we will be doing all we can to ensure that they are kept to a minimum."Please note the above dates have not yet been confirmed by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council and are only planned dates at present.Click here for information about other diversions operation in the Birmingham & Black Country areas
