Smartcards introduced for Concessionary Pass holders on NXWM service 50

From Sunday, 7 March, new ticket machines designed to accept English Concessionary Smartcards will be in operation on all branded National Express West Midlands service 50 buses in Birmingham! This marks the start point for rolling this equipment out to all National Express buses in the West Midlands and Coventry, a programme which, now started, should finish in the Summer of 2010. All current concessionary cards used on our vehicles are already Smartcards, so the public should continue to use existing cards, just in a new way! This is new technology for both the users and our staff, and while both will be well-supported, we would always appreciate your patience and understanding in these early days! We have been working closely with Centro to make this project happen, and are already using smartcard technology on our buses in Dundee.
