Travel West Midlands Revises Fares

Travelcard prices and Daytickets have been FROZEN in order to encourage more passengers to use local bus services. The changes have been made to specifically target car commuters encouraging them to take Travel cards and make more journeys by bus.The revisied fares will be apply from Tuesday 2nd January 2007.The revisions will mean that the two cash fares, will rise. The 80p fare which will increase to £1.00 (50p for children) and the £1.20 which will rise to £1.40 (70p for children)Daytickets and Travelcards will not be affected and prices are being frozen. Phil Bateman, Travel West Midlands’ Corporate Affairs Director said: "The revision has been designed to make travelling by bus easier and follows the London model by encouraging passengers to buy Daytickets and Travelcard. This will mean faster boarding times, as passengers switch from cash payments, reducing passenger boarding times should which in turn should conserve fuel used allowing for a ’greener approach’ to public transport by reducing traffic build up and creating less traffic jams. Not only should this switch be good for the environment it should also be good for bus passengers.
