TravelWise Week 19-25 September 2005

As part of European Mobility Week, which runs from 16-22 September 2005, Travelwise is promoting a series of events across the UK to highlight the importance of sustainable transport.

The theme of the 2005 European Mobility Week campaign is ’Clever Commuting’. The aim is to reach as many homes, schools and workplaces as possible with the TravelWise message. As well as promoting public transport Travelwise aims to raise awareness of all sustainable modes of travel and alternative working practices such as; cycling, walking, car sharing, public transport, flexible and home working. The week aims to make sustainable travel fun and interactive but behind all the fun there is a serious message.

Birmingham City Council has planned a range of exciting events to promote this year’s Travelwise Week including:

  • The launch of ’Get Around’ - an extension of Young Transnet for pupils attending FE Colleges throughout the City
  • The promotion of sustainable travel to school at school assemblies throughout the City
  • A retail Day on Saturday 24th September, a joint event between Pavilions Central and Travel West Midlands to promote bus travel to the city centre shopping sites
  • Active Travel Day on Sunday 25th September when the ever popular ’Company of Cyclists’ will once again be returning to a family oriented day of events in Victoria SquareFor more details and to see how you can get involved see www.birmingham.gov.uk/travelwise
