Travel West Midlands is proud today to announce that the company is set to take delivery of yet more new vehicles into the fleet. Building on the recent £3m investment of 18 Volvo Wrightbus Geminis that are now serving customers in the Black Country, TWM are set to take delivery of 38, brand new Volvo B7RLE Wrightbus Eclipse Urban single deck buses - representing a further investment of £5m - The new buses will be the first batch of single deck vehicles to be purchased by the company since 1999.Jack Henry, Engineering Director for National Express Group’s UK Bus Division said: "We are delighted to once again be working closely with Wrightbus in developing the specification for these new low-floor vehicles - our first new single deck buses to be added to the fleet for seven years. Aside from the fresh, new interior that will feature on the buses there has also been several technical developments. They will feature an improved 6-speed gearbox which will allow for smoother acceleration and improved fuel economy. The general drive quality of the vehicles will also benefit from Volvo’s new Electronic Braking System (EBS) which will improve brake pedal feel and increase the life of the vehicle’s brake pads. Overall, I am pleased that our partnership with Wrightbus has enabled us to continue to operate with an innovative, young and quality bus fleet."Mr Henry added: "The buses will be operating from our Acocks Green and Walsall garages on two major West Midlands bus services - the 37 in Birmingham and 311 which operates between Walsall and Stourbridge."Mark Nodder, Vice President Business Development at Wrightbus added: "Once again we are proud to have been selected as a supplier of vehicles for TWM. Our partnership in recent years has largely concentrated on the manufacture of double deckers for TWM, but we are naturally delighted that the company’s renewal of its single deck fleet has begun with this batch of vehicles from Wrightbus. TWM pays particular attention to the styling, quality and finish of its vehicles and therefore it is something of an accolade to be chosen to work with them once more on this project."- Travel West Midlands operate a fleet of 1,600 buses in the West Midlands - 70% being of low-floor, easy access design.- The Wright Group, founded in 1946, is a major supplier to the global bus market, see www.wrightbus.com
