Uniforms for India

Surplus bus drivers uniforms have been collected and are to be donated by Travel West Midlands to a charity specialising in development projects in India. The ’Divine Onkar Mission’ which is located in Wolverhampton, will now receive more than 1,000 items of clothing from Travel West Midlands including shirts, jackets, skirts, jumpers and anoraks. The ’mission’ has already received considerable financial support over the last two years from staff at Travel West Midlands who have been supporting the construction of two water wells in Keonjar District, Orissa State, India. Harry Bullock, Employee Director, Travel West Midlands said: "We are indebted to Travel West Midlands and Allen and Douglas our uniform manufacturers (Banbury), for agreeing to treat our surplus uniform in this way. It is a very generous gesture on behalf of both companies."Eric Tromans, Chairman and Piara Singh, Secretary of the Transport & General Workers Union, 5/11 West Bromwich Branch added: "We are pleased that this surplus clothing will now be distributed in an area of the world that is in need." This gift builds upon the two water wells that have already been constructed. The gift will be a good ’curtain raiser’ for the very stiff task we have set ourselves, of building a school for the children and people of this state.Travel West Midlands staff have contributed through their own fund raising to the development of two water wells in Keonjar District. The water wells have a plaque fixed to them informing the users that they have been developed through aid from Travel West Midlands bus drivers. The staff are also hoping to build a school in the same district, using their own donations and fund raising to finance the school construction.
