National Express West Midlands and Centro have won a prestigious national award for their industry leading Transforming Tram Travel partnership. The partnership scooped the ‘Vision of the Year’ at this year’s UK Light Rail Awards.
The partnership’s 50-point vision to build the UK’s best tram system through initiatives such as paying with your smartwatch, a money back guarantee, a new customer charter and discounted tickets for apprentices, NHS staff and part-time workers wowed judges. They said:
“Transforming Tram Travel is an ambitious 50-point plan, but one that will transform the lives of everyday passengers with real-world and practical deliverables.”
The partnership, which was signed earlier this year, will deliver all 50 pledges within the next three years and hopes that the improvements made will help build the case for further extensions of Midland Metro across the region.
Peter Coates Managing Director of National Express West Midlands who operates Midland Metro said:
“We are proud to have won this award for our ground-breaking Transforming Tram Travel partnership. Over the next three years we will deliver all 50 pledges to further improve Midland Metro services including new tickets for apprentices, NHS staff and part-time workers as well as a money back guarantee if our services aren’t up to scratch.”
Cllr Roger Horton, Centro lead member for rail and Midland Metro, said: “This is a partnership between ourselves that has brought great benefits to the travelling public and I am delighted that the hard work of everyone behind it has been formally recognised by this award.”
