National Express West Midlands has successfully held a week full of charitable activities and raised almost £250 for Acorn’s Children’s Hospice.
The bus operator’s charity week was the first in a series of fundraising events for the hospice, which over the course of five days involved a cake sale, a raffle to win a luxury hamper and a paid day off, as well as a dress down day for which staff made a donation to take part.
National Express West Midlands’ Walsall garage recently selected Acorn’s Children’s Hospice on Walstead Road as its local community partner. The partnership means the whole garage, which has over 500 employees, will work with the hospice to provide support in a range of ways, including various fundraising activities, throughout the rest of this year and next.
Nathan Smith, National Express West Midlands Graduate Management Trainee, said: “We really enjoyed the charity week and managed to raise £240 for Acorn’s Children’s Hospice. They do fantastic work for local children in our region and I’m already looking forward to our next event where we will hopefully raise even more money.”
Abi Floyd, Acorn’s Community Fundraising Manager, met with employees at the Walsall garage to collect the £240 raised during their charity week and to help draw the winning raffle tickets. She said: “It was a pleasure to meet everyone from the garage and great to see the enthusiasm and dedication from the staff during the charity week. Acorns relies on fundraising to continue to provide our vital care and support in the local area, so we’re very grateful to be chosen as community partner.”
In the last year Acorns in the Black Country, based in Walsall has cared for over 190 children and nearly 270 families, including those who are bereaved. Care is provided through the hospice and through specialist teams who offer psychosocial support and clinical care in family homes and the wider community.
