Xplore Dundee Tickets using the National Entitlement Card (NEC) - Terms & Conditions

Use of our tickets on the National Entitlement Card (NEC) is subject to these Terms and Conditions together with Xplore Dundee Conditions of Carriage. Xplore Dundee is the trading name of Tayside Public Transport Co Ltd ("the Company").

It is possible to store tickets on your NEC for travel on the Company's services. The NEC cannot be used for travel unless it has been loaded with valid tickets, and the registered holder is responsible for keeping it recharged. The travel tickets loaded on your NEC are non-transferrable and can only be used for travel by the registered card user

NEC terms and conditions are available here.

Use of the NEC on National Express buses

A registration form must be completed before the first ticket is issued. The Company may refuse to add tickets to an NEC at its discretion.

On boarding a bus the NEC must be placed on the card reader (ticket machine) so that the reader indicates it has been properly read by making an audible 'bleep' and showing a green light. Only when this positive confirmation of reading has been received is the registered holder treated as having made a valid payment for that journey.

Drivers and officials of the Company may inspect the NEC at any time and it must be shown on request along with any relevant id/student card required when registering.

All NEC cards remain the property of individual at all times although the Company reserves the right to withdraw the tickets applied to the NEC .

The registered holder of a NEC agrees to inform the Company in writing or by email of any change to their name, address or other details (see Contact Us section). This will enable contact to be made to issue a replacement of any valid tickets if applicable.

Xplore Dundee is not liable in any way for the correct operation of the other products on the NEC, and is not responsible for their replacement in the event of the NEC card being lost or damaged.

Card & ticket expiry

Some NEC cards have an expiry date and Customers must ensure that they have a valid NEC at all times. Should you require to renew your NEC or change any personal details please contact Dundee City Council Customer Services on 01382 433267 or email dundee.nec@dundeecity.gov.uk or your own local authority.

Any stored tickets will expire after the number of days/journeys have ended. The stored tickets will expire if not used within 12 months from their purchase date. No refunds will be given for tickets which remain unused after this time. However, if further tickets are added to the NEC by topping up the life of all tickets remaining on the card at that point will be extended for 12 months from the date of the last top up.

Damaged NECs

Damaged or faulty NEC are replaced by Dundee City Council, however to allow any outstanding unused tickets to be transferred to the replacement card you must also inform Xplore Dundee (see Contact Us). Unused tickets will be transferred after a period of 3 working days when presented to the Commercial Street office. If the Company believes the NEC has been tampered with, in any way, tickets may be withdrawn without refunding the remaining value.

If you have a card issued through Dundee College or University of Abertay Dundee please contact them directly about a replacement card.

Lost or stolen cards

The loss or theft of a NEC must be notified to Dundee City Council and Xplore Dundee by calling (see Contact Us section below) as soon as possible to avoid unauthorised use. Outstanding unused tickets will be transferred to the replacement card once presented to the Commercial Street office after a period of 3 working days.

If you have a card issued through Dundee College or University of Abertay Dundee please contact them directly about a replacement card.

Replacement Cards

Should your NEC carry any valid tickets and become damaged, lost or stolen you will be given the chance to purchase tickets which can be stored on a Discovr card until such time as your replacement NEC becomes available.

Unauthorised Use

The Company cannot prevent the unauthorised use of a lost or stolen NEC card until it has been reported to Dundee City Council by the registered holder. The NEC will then be cancelled but it may take up to 2 working days for it to come into effect. Until it is cancelled, the registered holder will be liable for the unauthorised use of the NEC.

The Company will not be liable for any travel costs incurred between the reporting of a lost or stolen card, its cancellation, and the receipt of a replacement NEC.

Refunds are only granted in exceptional circumstances and are entirely at the discretion of the Company. Refunds must be applied for in writing. If granted, a refund will always be calculated on a pro rata basis which fairly accounts for the travel used. A £5 administration charge will be made for all refunds. 'Refunds' are not to be confused with the transfer of outstanding tickets from a lost, stolen, or damaged NEC.

Data Protection

The Company will not pass details of registered holders on to any third party except as required by law.

Your details will be held on paper initially and then electronically for 12 months after the last use of your card along with your photographic ID provided at registration.

Please be aware that unless you give your consent to do so, Dundee City Council will not share your personal data with National Express and vice versa so you must inform both parties if you move address or any other details change.

The Company will only use information that the registered holders have supplied for administration (including development and maintenance of systems), customer services and research, and detection and prevention of crime. Unless the relevant box has been ticked on the application form, registered holders agree that the Company may also contact them with updated information about the company's services such as timetable changes, price changes, special offers, services and other related products.
