Bus driver gets on his bike for charity

Stephen Stewart and Marc Jackson May 2014

National Express Dundee is supporting one of its drivers who is using pedal power to raise hundreds of pounds for Cancer Research.

Stephen Stewart and friend Marc Jackson have completed two demanding bike rides - Etape Loch Ness and Etape Caledonia - on two consecutive weekends this month.

Stephen, who began working for the bus operator 18 months ago, and Marc, who's been employed by Michelin for 26 years, are aiming to raise as much as they can for the charity Cancer Research, and National Express Dundee has donated £200 to help boost their fundraising, which currently stands at £900.

The Etape Loch Ness saw them cycle 67 miles around the loch, coming in under the 5-hour mark at 4 hours 48 minutes; while Etape Caledonia involved an 81 mile course around the Perthshire countryside, including an extremely demanding ride up Schiehallion.  The pair completed the challenge in 5 hours 15 minutes.

Stephen says the Inverness ride was tough: "Loch Ness was shorter but harder - compared to that, Schiehallion was easy!  I'm really pleased with what we've achieved and want to thank National Express Dundee for sponsoring us.  We're already looking forward to next year!"
