Wellgate shoppers and Xplore Dundee bus passengers have been thanked for their part in the record-breaking success of a Christmas kids’ fundraising campaign.
Fundraisers behind ‘Mission Christmas’, part of Cash for Kids, have revealed that members of the public donated over £180,000 worth of gifts, benefitting over 3,600 local children. Combined with over £25,000 cash donations, the campaign is celebrating its best ever grand total in its seven year history. Indeed, in 2009, they raised just over £10,500, representing a staggering growth.
As main sponsor, Wellgate housed eight gift donation points for shoppers on the run-up to Christmas. In addition, for the first time, Mission Christmas took over a unit within Wellgate as their temporary headquarters.
Meanwhile, six Xplore Dundee drivers dressed as Santa, or one of his elves, throughout December, with customers invited to donate through on-board collection tins, via the Travel Shop in Commercial Street or online. They collected 19 full tins, a bucket and a number of web donations, raising a staggering total of £2568.40.
Lynda Sword, Charity Manager, Mission Christmas said, “The team at Cash for Kids was overwhelmed by the support of the public for Mission Christmas. Even in difficult financial times, our local community pulls out all the stops to help the children who need it most. I’d like to thank every individual and business who got involved to help us in our mission and kept the magic of Christmas alive for our local kids.”
