Get in the Carnival mood with the Number 56!

Xplore Dundee is running the only shuttle bus service to and from the city’s biggest event of the summer -Carnival Fifty Six.

The bus operator’s an official travel partner for the festival, which takes place on 12th and 13th August at Camperdown Park.  The dedicated shuttle bus, Service 56, will provide regular transport from two city centre locations, and will be the only bus available returning to the city centre in the late evening and into the small hours of the morning.  The service will run between 10am and 1.30am on the two days, with pick up points at Greenmarket (next to the Science Centre) and Ward Road (at The Howff/opposite the Post Office).

Managing Director of Xplore Dundee Elsie Turbyne said:

“We’re glad to be involved with Carnival Fifty Six and hope that many festival-goers will use our shuttle to get to and from Camperdown Park.  As there is no on-site parking, Service 56 from the city centre will be the most direct way to get to this major event, allowing people to spend less time travelling and more time enjoying the festival.”

Travel wristbands are available now – one day or whole weekend wristbands are available and there’s a special discounted fare for anyone with a valid Weekly, Monthly or Direct Debit pass.  The bus operator’s urging festival goers to beat the queues and buy in advance, either from the Travel Centre in Commercial Street or to have their wristbands posted directly to them by ordering online atnxdiscovrit.com.

The music line-up for this highlight of the summer calendar includes Basement Jaxx, Clean Bandit and Mark Ronson.

Carnival Fifity Six Director Craig Blyth said:

‘It’s great to have Xplore Dundee on board to support the travel arrangements for Carnival Fifty Six. Due to there being no on-site car parking at this year’s event, we would encourage anyone attending from within the city, to hop on one of the provided shuttles which are placed at a number of easily accessed areas.’

Full details of times, prices and ticket options can be found online via Xplore Dundee’s website and social media pages, or by enquiring at the Travel Centre in Commercial Street.

For those travelling from a bit further outside the city, Xplore Dundee’s colleagues in the coach division will also be providing transport directly to Camperdown Park for Carnival Fifty Six both Saturday and Sunday. Coaches will be travelling from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Livingstone, Perth and Stirling, and tickets can be bought as singles, day returns, and weekend returns Saturday-Sunday. Coaches will arrive on site at 11am and will depart at 11:30pm.  For groups of four or more, National Express offers a 25% discount to the total journey cost.
