National Express West Midlands has released data that shows buses this Boxing Day were the busiest ever as sale shoppers chose transport as their first bargain of the day.
The region's biggest bus operator carried over 250,000 the day after Christmas as shoppers headed for the sales. The busiest routes were from Walsall and Dudley into Birmingham as well as those serving Merry Hill shopping centre.
The company ran extra services over the festive period to help shoppers make the most of late pre-Christmas opening hours and the Boxing Day sales.
The National Express West Midlands smartphone app also had a record number of downloads with over 800 people adding it to their phones on Boxing Day alone.
Jack Kelly, Head of External Communications at National Express West Midlands said: "Bus provides the best way to get into the city and town centres across the West Midlands. We drop you by the shops, without the queues and expense of car parks. Our new app also ensures you know exactly when your bus will be at your stop so you can make the most of your time."
