City centre congestion

We have been experiencing unprecedented delays around Birmingham City since late August. This is due to traffic jams caused by the knock-on impact of various road closures and changes in the city centre, including Paradise Circus redevelopment and the new Grand Central. Quite simply, there are too many cars trying to use too little space, and it is causing gridlock which is delaying our buses.

We are working with the city council to tackle this, to find solutions, for example by better enforcing bus lanes and no-parking regulations, as well re-timing traffic lights to make traffic flow more smoothly. We also have over a hundred inspectors in our control room and on the street working to keep buses moving.

We are confident that things will improve soon, and can only apologise for this disruption beyond our control - which is as frustrating to us as it is to you.
