Dundee bus drivers swap roads for rivers

Dundee bus drivers are swapping roads for rivers this weekend as they compete head to head in an extreme white water rafting competition.

Sixteen employees from National Express Dundee will take part in a two hour race over six miles from Aberfeldy to Grandtully in aid of Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland.

The drivers, office staff and managers have formed two rival teams, each with the target of raising ᆪ1000 ahead of the race. The event was set up by Operations Manager Elaine Williams, who says the competitive spirit has captured the garage:

"The day job is all about safe, careful driving so we?re looking forward to testing our skills along the river rapids. We?ve formed two rival garage teams and each side is aiming to raise ᆪ1000 for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland. The competition has really spurred people on to collect as much money as possible for this fantastic charity. On 21 March we are taking a bus to Grandtully - but I'm not sure we'll be coming back together!"

The garage decided to take part in the challenge when they spotted a notice about the event in the newspaper. Within days Elaine had the first raft of employees booked up then found that driver Gary Cassidy had formed a rival team. The competitors are all aged between 23 and 45.
