Mammoth Black Country Charity Bike Ride!
(Oh, It's from Dundee to London!)
On Saturday 12th May 2007, 15 crazy staff from Travel West Midlands' Pensnett bus garage, are embarking on a mammoth 520-mile charity bike ride from DUNDEE TO LONDON!
The bike ride, which is raising money to support National Missing Persons Helpline, is expected to take 80 hours from Saturday 12th May to Tuesday 15th May - starting in the Scottish city of Discovery, Dundee and finishing at Travel London's Walworth depot in central London. The reason for Dundee to London? Well little known to bus passengers in the West Midlands, the company also owns local bus businesses - Travel Dundee and capital bus operation, Travel London.
To get the 15 budding cyclists in shape, the Village Hotel and Leisure Club in Dudley have offered free membership of their fitness facilities until May 2007!
Bus driver, Paul Bishop, the main organisor, and who is also taking part in the charity ride said: "Our target here at Pensnett is to raise ᆪ5,500 which will help to fund the Freephone Runaway Helpline for one whole year! However, we are more than happy to raise more than the expected amount and the current donations coming in are really overwhelming. There is a lot of organisation going into the bike ride and we are currently ensuring all the finer details are taken care of! We?re excited about the challenge ahead and we?re already getting our training regimes in place with the help of staff at the Village Hotel in Dudley. We?d like to thank them once again for all their help."
A special website to collect donations for National Missing Persons Helpline has been set up by Travel West Midlands. The site is accessible through www.justgiving.com/dundeetolondon
- For the bike ride, there will be four riders at once and they will cycle for 1-2 hour periods and then change over with another four people. A support team with three vehicles will also be a very important element for resting and refreshments.
- 210,000 people go missing each year in the UK. By supporting us you can help friends reunite, and support the fantastic work National Missing Persons are doing.
