Safer Travel Textline Launched

SAFER TRAVEL TEXTLINE - 07624 818332

Travel Dundee is pleased to announce today the launch of the new Safer Travel SMS Textline for bus passengers!

Stuart Henry, Corporate Affairs Manager for Travel Dundee said: "As part of our continuous information and intelligence sharing process with Tayside Police, and through our commitment to ensuring a safer bus network, we have launched the new Safer Travel SMS text number. The idea of the new text number is for our bus passengers to text specific details of incidents or intelligence directly into our Safer Travel team here at Travel Dundee. The information provided by our customers is key and will help ourselves and the Police to build a much more accurate picture of bus crime 'hot spots' across the area whilst also giving our customers another innovative communications channel."

Mr Henry added; "It's clear that we must use all new technology available to us and we hope that information from passengers will now begin to flow in and contribute to an even safer bus network here in Dundee. Any intelligence from our customers or from our staff on crime and anti-social behaviour will prove to be of tremendous assistance. We will be continuing to introduce innovations into our award-winning Safer Travel initiative over the next 12 months and we are constantly striving to making travel simpler."

Constable Gill Grant, Crime Reduction Unit, Tayside Police commented; "The Safer Travel partnership is there to reassure bus passengers and to deter criminals from on-board activity. Since Safer Travel was introduced here in Dundee occurrences of crime and anti-social behaviour on Travel Dundee's buses remains very low.

She added; "Tayside Police are keen to see this trend maintained and support the launch of the Safer Travel SMS Textline for bus passengers. This will provide an additional and modern way for bus passengers to highlight incidents of anti-social or suspicious behaviour, anonymously. This information can then be used to assist in building an accurate picture of bus crime 'hot spots' and assist in providing a low-crime bus network across Dundee".

The text number is now appearing on special bus information vinyls across all Dundee buses.
