Travel Dundee - celebrating 10 years

Travel Dundee is this weekend celebrating their 10th anniversary as part of National Express Group.
On 24th February 1997, the global transport group acquired Tayside Public Transport and the business was soon rebranded as Travel Dundee, with a new red, white and blue livery and logo. Tayside Public Transport was a bus business steeped in the transport history of Dundee - even since the days of trams which operated in the city in the early 20th century.
Jack Henry, Chairman of Travel Dundee said; "Since the business was acquired by National Express Group in the late nineties, Travel Dundee has cemented its reputation as a quality, reliable bus operator with a deep history in the city, along with a proven track record of investment.
"Since acquisition in 1997, we have invested ᆪ10.5 million in both new vehicles and in our depot facilities in East Dock Street.
"In late 1997, we became the first bus operator to integrate Scotland's first low floor, easy access double-decker bus into our fleet and the low-floor theme was further enhanced in November 2004 when we became the first bus operator in the UK to have 100% of the fleet operating with low floor, easy access vehicles. This target was achieved, years ahead of Government guidelines, by our largest bus order of 18 new double-deck buses which remain the pride of our bus fleet."
Mr Henry contrinued; "The pinnacles of Travel Dundee's success came in 2005 when firstly, the bus company was awarded the prestigious Scottish Public Transport Operator of the Year title at the 2005 Scottish Transport Awards. This was along with a deserved, rare MBE in the Queen?s New Year's Honours for the company's Managing Director Jim Lee, for long-term services to public transport in Scotland."
"Our national award in 2005, along with a similar award for Dundee City Council, highlighted to everyone across Scotland how much public transport has improved in the city and says a lot for both the commitment shown by our staff, the ongoing investment programme into the business and our consistent partnership working with the local authority to deliver a truly accessible and world-class bus network. 2005 was also a key year for us when we achieved the respected Investors in People (IIP) accreditation which will help ensure ongoing focus and investment in the personal and professional development of our staff."
As part of the birthday celebrations, Travel Dundee have joined forces with the Dundee Evening Telegraph to offer people across the city free travel on Saturday 24th February on specific bus services. The company has also joined forces with Dundee's no.1 newspaper to give one lucky customer the chance to win one years free travel on Travel Dundee's bus network.

Travel Dundee operates on over 30 bus routes across the city and employs over 350 staff
