10 facts for Earth Day 2023

22nd April 2023 is Earth Day

As Earth Day 2023 approaches we have 10 facts to show how our business and your choice of travel can help us all invest in our planet.

Ten facts for Earth Day

  1. Coventry will become the first all electric bus city in the UK
  2. Not only will Coventry become the UK’s first all-electric bus city, but TfWM, which is part of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), has committed to a fully zero-emission region by 2030 in its Bus Service Improvement Plan.
  3. Our entire vehicle fleet has already been converted to Euro VI engines. So even if you see an older registration bus it will still be one of the cleanest, greenest diesel buses available on the market.
  4. A full double decker bus can take 75 cars off the road.
  5. If everyone switched one car journey per month to a bus or coach, that would be up to a billion fewer car journeys being made which is a saving of two million tonnes of CO2.
  6. In February 2020 we outlined a vision to become the UK’s most sustainable bus company, with our fleet becoming fully zero emission from 2030.
  7. In January 2023 we announced that we are investing a record £150 million in 300 UK-made electric zero emission buses, for delivery by the end of December 2024. The buses will be deployed across the West Midlands. This will mean that over a third of our fleet will be zero emissions!
  8. Our electric vehicles produce zero carbon emissions at the tailpipe and are powered by renewable ‘green’ energy - even the heaters run off the battery!
  9. In the first 12 months of service, 29 electric buses clocked over 850.000 miles and saved 1400 tonnes of carbon dioxide going out into the atmosphere.
  10. Even a five-mile journey on a normal diesel bus means you emit half the carbon as you would if you went by car.

So there it is, catching the bus is one of the simplest and most cost effective things you can do to fight climate change. To find out more about other changes you can make to support the planet visit the Earth Day website.
