City Hosts are the friendly face of Coventry during the city’s reign as UK City of Culture 2021, responsible for guiding and supporting visitors to the city.
The team is made up of volunteers from all over Coventry and further afield, who want to share their passion, spread their knowledge and showcase their city.
Now a few months into the year of celebrations, Coventry is buzzing with events, from visual art installations to theatre, music and comedy performances. The programme has something for everyone, celebrating the past, present and future of the city. City Hosts are instantly recognisable across the city in their blue, black and white uniforms, helping visitors to make the most of their time in Coventry.
Over 2,700 volunteers have signed up so far, but there are still plenty of opportunities to get involved. There are so many benefits to volunteering, and everyone has their own reason for being a volunteer. For Coventry University Students’ Union’s Employability Services Manager, Devina, volunteering is a chance to support others and an opportunity to learn something new. Other City Hosts have signed up to give back to their community, meet new people and enhance their CV and career prospects.
Whether you’re born and raised in Coventry, or you’re new to the area, you can be part of the City of Culture 2021 celebrations by becoming a City Host. Full training is provided, as well as limited edition uniform, additional training and development opportunities and exclusive offers and discounts.
If you are interested in signing up, applications are still open, with training being delivered throughout the year. Free training is provided as well as access to a number of discounts, which now includes free and discounted 5-day bus tickets to travel all day on any local National Express bus in Coventry or the West Midlands. Find out more and apply online. Offline applicants can contact the City of Culture hotline on 02476 998221 and choose ‘option 6’ for City Hosts.
