Everything you need to know: 16-18 Photocard

Heading back to school and looking for the best way to travel and aged 16-18? Whether you’re looking for a monthly pass, term pass or only travel occasionally, here is some important bits you should know when buying your school ticket:

  • If you are aged 16-18, you are entitled to child rate travel when you have a valid 16-18 photocard.
  • Your household must pay council tax to one of the following Metropolitan boroughs for you to be eligible for the 16-18 photocard: Birmingham, Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Solihull or Coventry.

How do I get a 16-18 photocard?

When you buy a pass online, your ticket will be sent to you on a 16-18 Swift card.

If you don’t travel very often, you can order a blank 16-18 Swift card here, allowing you to buy child rate tickets.

How do I find the best ticket for me?

We have a wide range of passes available on our website, you can check out the choices here.

What happens if I’m not eligible for the 16-18 card?

If your household does not pay council tax to one of the above boroughs, there are a couple of options for you:

  1. If you are still in full time education* you can apply for a student pass here.
  2. If you are not in full time education you can apply for an adult pass here

*You must be studying a minimum of 12 hours per week to qualify for the student pass. Proof of education will need to be provided.
