With a new year comes new goals and fresh starts for a lot of us. So if you’ve been thinking about a career change or looking for something to get you going every morning, maybe it’s time for you to join our incredible team of drivers!
Each day National Express buses help people get to important destinations, connect with friends and families and explore the West Midlands when they might not have any other way of doing so. Now you can make a difference in everyday people’s lives with us.
Here’s Dianne, one of our most experienced drivers, to explain more about what it is like being a bus driver for us!
Dianne Reed has worked for 16 years as a Bus Driver and we’re proud to call her one of our Master Drivers. To be recognised as a Master Driver, you’ll have progressed from professional to an advanced driver, whilst maintaining exceptional levels of safety and excellent customer service.
Dianne says “I was contemplating a career change then I saw a young lady driving a bus and I was in awe. I took it from there basically and phoned up, found out the information to apply and then 16 years later I’m still here”.
Dianne loves the variety of work and meeting new people, “every day is different. I get my regulars, I get my newcomers and it's nice to meet new people. That's my favourite part about the job.”
“The best thing that has happened to me recently is that I was put on a different route from my regular and I had a female passenger commend me on my driving. She noted my bus number and she said she would contact the garage to commend my work. It was a nice feeling.”
So where did Dianne start, and how did her career as a bus driver develop?
“I came through as a trainee during my theory and learnt to drive. Fast forward to 2015, and I was introduced to the Master Driver programme, which I completed successfully. It has opened a lot of doors for me. I have been part of various things in National Express, such as TV advertisements and projects for the People team. It's just been great! Driving and meeting new people every day, I really love my job. It makes me happy.”
Dianne says that her job helps her get the right balance at home and at work. She says, “My typical day starts with doing things at home like taking my son to nursery and then go on to work. My role allows me the flexibility to do my duties as a working mom and I feel I can balance between the two successfully.” [I also have to mention the benefits of working for National Express. They include things such as] “the free travel; the training as we get to be involved in so many training courses to help us progress; the pension scheme; and the lifelong friendships you make.”
If you have a passion to provide exceptional customer service, like Dianne, come and drive for us. We will provide all the training you will need.
With an inclusive attitude, you will make a big difference to the people and communities we serve. Whether you are at the beginning of your career, looking for a different line of work or simply searching for a new challenge, becoming a bus driver may be the right job for you.
