5 reasons why travelling by bus is a great idea

So why is travelling by bus a great idea?

World Car Free Day is celebrated on Wednesday 22nd September 2021. The purpose of the day is to encourage people to give up their car for a day, and try an alternative form of transportation.

Hopping on one of our brill buses is an easy way of saving money while helping the West Midlands tackle climate change, through simply making cleaner and greener transport choices. Here are 5 reasons why travelling by bus is a great idea.

Reason 1 - A double decker bus can take 75 cars off the road

If more of us catch the bus this means fewer cars on the roads, which in turn makes our services more efficient due to reductions in congestion.  So if a double checker bus can take 75 cars off the road, imagine how many cars would be taken off the road if everyone were to try the bus for a day!

Reason 2 - A bus makes half the carbon of the same trip in a car

If everyone switched just one car journey a month to a bus or coach instead, that would mean up to a billion fewer car journeys, saving two million tonnes of CO2!

Reason 3 - Double decker buses create less pollution than a diesel car

A double decker bus creates less pollution than a diesel car and while a car can carry five passengers, they are often only carrying one!

Reason 4 - There’s a ticket to suit anyone and everyone!

We have a wide range of tickets and ways to pay that can suit everyone's needs and travel habits. From Day Saver ticket bundles (perfect for part-time working) to contactless payments (a quick and easy payment method for instant travel) there is a suitable ticket for everyone. With travel from less than £4 per day, bus is a great way to save the pennies.

Reason 5 - You may be able to claim £2,000 in FREE bus travel!

If you are the owner of a car that isn't compliant with Birmingham's Clean Air Zone and travel into Birmimgham, you may be able to sign up for the Vehicle Scrappage and Travel Scheme. This could make you eligible for £2,000 in travel credits that can be redeemed across bus, train and metro. The travel credits can also be used by more than one nominated person so could be shared amongst family members or if you sign up to one of our passes that can be your travel costs covered for well over 12months!

Still not convinced?

Diesel cars are the biggest contributors to NOx pollution from road transport, together accounting for 71% of emissions, compared with just 6% for buses and coaches. Therefore on a per passenger kilometre basis, a full modern bus performs better on emissions than the average private car and also uses road space much more efficiently.

Hop on our brill buses and try them today! Using our buses not only saves you money, but it can also help reduce the impact of pollution on our local communities. Plan your next journey with us here.
