Santa ho-ho-hops on the bus from Walsall to Lichfield

Santa (Walsall Councillor Richard Worrall) swapped his sleigh for the 10A and caught the bus from Walsall bus station to the historic city of Lichfield, to check out what’s on offer over the festive period.

Earlier this year we extended our 10A bus route to serve Lichfield, providing a reliable, frequent bus service to and from Walsall, via Rushall, Shelfield, Brownhills, Chasetown and Burntwood, seven days a week.

So far we’ve been delighted with the response from passengers and local councillors, and want to share all the great things happening this winter in Lichfield and Walsall, for those who have not yet explored some of our region’s best travel destinations.

Located just over the county border in Staffordshire, Lichfield’s historic streets are lined with tempting shops stocking all manner of Christmas gifts, independent cafes perfect for a light bite, and cosy pubs ideal for a festive get together.

At the heart of Lichfield is it’s most treasured landmark, the 12th century Cathedral. This winter it’ll play host to the Christmas Tree Festival, which celebrates this yuletide tradition with an array of trees decorated by local schools, businesses and charities, and runs daily until Sunday 6th January. From Monday 17th - Saturday 22nd December, explore the grounds and marvel at the wonder of Cathedral Illuminated, with this iconic building transformed with a spectacular, festive light display.

A short walk from the Cathedral lies Beacon Park, which is home to Lichfield Winter Wonderland Christmas Market from Friday 14th December - Friday 4th January. Browse the Christmas Market to find a unique Christmas gift, treat yourself to a warm winter treat and don your skates on the ice rink, the perfect opportunity to let your little ones take the ice for the first time!

In Walsall, Christmas celebrations are also underway with Christmas in Walsall taking place at Walsall Arboretum between Friday 14th - Sunday 16th December. Enjoy all the delights of festive season in the Victorian park, complete with a theatre show, a petting zoo and fairground rides for all the family. Or if you’re still looking to finish your Christmas shopping, explore Walsall’s retail haven with Old Square and Saddlers shopping centres, which are just a short walk from one another!
