First Day of Autumn: Top Spots in the West Midlands

It’s officially the First Day of Autumn! The leaves are turning beautiful shades of red and orange, the mornings are cool, and pumpkin spice lattes are back. It’s the perfect time to get outdoors and snap some great photos for your autumn feed.

Looking for the best autumn spots in the West Midlands? Not only can you get amazing pictures, but you can also enjoy a fun day out. Here are our top picks!

Kenilworth Castle

Take a step back in time and explore Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Gardens, one of England’s most impressive mediaeval landmarks. The ruins look stunning against an autumn backdrop, and you can enjoy the great views from the tower.

Photo Tip: Capture the castle’s silhouette at sunset for a perfect autumn shot!

Getting there: Hop on the 11 bus to get to Kenilworth Castle.

Sutton Park

Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield is a great place to enjoy autumn. You can follow the 5km nature trail, see if you can spot a wild pony, or just enjoy a walk through the colourful trees.

Feeling adventurous? Try sailing or canoeing at Powell’s Pool with the Sutton Sailing Club!

Getting there: Take the 604 or 77/77A bus to the park. 

Cannon Hill Park

Cannon Hill Park is a fun day out for all ages. In autumn, the Japanese Garden is especially beautiful with its bright red and yellow leaves.

Bringing the kids? The Fun Park is open on weekends with rides and games, and you can also visit the Nature Centre or try your hand at mini-golf!

Getting there: The 4547 or 50 buses will take you to Cannon Hill Park.

Coombe Abbey Park

For stunning autumn scenery, head to Coombe Abbey Park. The floral gardens are a great spot for photos, especially the Wildflower Meadow. You can also enjoy a walk along the Heron’s Way or Redwood Grove trails through the historic woodlands.

After your walk, warm up with a pumpkin spice latte at the café!

Getting there: The 85 bus will take you to Coombe Abbey Park.

Sheldon Country Park

For a perfect autumn day out, head to Sheldon Country Park in Birmingham! With its sprawling green fields and charming farm area, it’s a great place to enjoy nature. Wander along the scenic trails, spot planes taking off from the nearby airport, or take a stroll through the woodland paths for a breath of fresh air.

After your adventure, why not treat yourself to a cozy hot chocolate or a pumpkin spice latte from the nearby café?

Getting there: Catch the X1,X2, 60, 72 or 73 bus, which will take you right to Sheldon Country Park!
