It's that time of year again. Eurovision is back and better than ever, and with the event being hosted in the UK for the first time in 25 years we’re even more excited than usual!
As host city Liverpool gear up to kick off the party of the year this Saturday (13th May) did you know that Birmingham will also be hosting a celebration of their own? That’s right, to celebrate Eurovision being hosted in the UK again there will be a free viewing party held in Centenary Square, right in the city centre!
Birmingham City Council will be putting up a big screen right in the middle of the square where you can watch Eurovision from 8pm with special effects, surprises and also the chance for you to vote for your favourite act too!
That’s not everything though from 3:30pm there will also be a family friendly programme of live music, dance, performances and more. All whilst being hosted by the fabulous, Brummy based Drag extraordinaire Fatt Butcher, alongside Ru Paul Drag Race’s Ginny Lemon.
There’s a packed schedule of fun throughout the day and it’s all kicking off with some amazing Eastern European folk dancing and Ukrainian music from Centrala at 3:30pm. If that hasn’t already got you in the Eurovision mood then maybe some Massoake will, the World’s biggest singalong party will be headlining! Join in with their glamorous, sequin-glad live band as they blast out hairbrush anthems from across the years. Don’t worry if you don’t know all the words, there will be giant lyrics on the big screen for everyone to get involved.
How about a family friendly rave too? Big Fish Little Fish will also be joining the party with a Eurovision special mix alongside bubbles, snow foam, wing dancers, confetti cannons and even a giant parachute dance finale. This one is perfect for children of all ages!
Drum N Bounce will also be on hand to pump up the energy levels with classical aerobic dance moves set to a heavy drum ‘n bass soundtrack. Then bounce your way through Europop, bassline classics and mixes by Kyiv-based Ukrainian DJ Vlad Yaremchuk from Ukrainian Association of Music Events
You will also be able to watch Radio 2 DJ Scott Mills’ play some Eurovision Classics on the big screen bringing party vibes and a chance to watch fan favourite Eurovision hits from past and present.
Whilst there will be a chance to enjoy the finest food and drink offering from Birmingham street food traders, attendees are also welcome to bring picnics.
