5 haunted places to visit by bus

Haunted places to discover across the West Midlands

Published: 21st October 2021

Just creepin’ it real this Halloween

There’s a chill in the air around The West Midlands, and that’s not just for Halloween! With the West Midlands hosting some of the ‘most haunted’ places throughout England, we have put together 5 spooky places that are easily accessible by bus.

Dudley Castle, Dudley

Known to have many ghosts wandering it’s cold stone walkways, the grey lady and ghost cat of Dudley Castle are the most iconic reported hauntings. The castle dates back to the Domesday book era of 1086, which is understandable why it is now regarded as one of the most haunted locations in the Midlands, or even the world itself!

Head over to the Haunted Happenings website to view the remaining ghost hunts for 2021. Do not worry if they sell out, dates are listed for 2022 already!

Graiseley Old Hall, Wolverhampton

With a history of hauntings dating back to the 1300's, Graiseley Old Hall is one of the oldest haunted buildings in Wolverhampton.

Featured in a BBC series called 'The House That Cries', strange and eerie sightings and activity has been experienced which includes items moving and going missing, as well as shadows and rumours of children walking around the house.

The house isn’t open to visitors all year round however, Haunted Happenings have a few ghost hunts scheduled to take place at Graiseley Old Hall during November.

The Oak House, West Bromwich

This 16th Century building appeared on ‘Most Haunted’ back in 2016, so it has to be haunted right? The Oak House is home to many strange sightings and activities. Footsteps, coughs and singing have also been reported often in very close proximity to visitors and staff when within the building.

Visit The Oak House events schedule to find out more about the trails, ghost hunts and family fun days happening throughout October.

Steelhouse Lane Lock Up, Birmingham

The Grade II listed Steelhouse Lane Lock Up opened in 1890, and was built to hold up to 50 of Birmingham's most hardened criminals (if you have watched The Peaky Blinders, you will know what kind of criminals were once held here!)

When visiting the lock up, it is known that you can hear the sounds of the tormented souls who were once waiting for trial.

The Steelhouse Lane Lock Up is not set to open its doors after refurbishment until April 2022 however, it’s a great opportunity to add it to the bucket list for Halloween in 2022!

Aston Hall, Birmingham

Whether you believe in ghosts or not,  Aston Hall’s tales of murders, mysterious ladies and tragic events have been spoken about for over 400 years!

With sightings of a grey ghost, ghost housekeepers and a spirit houseboy, Aston Hall has been named one of the UK's most haunted heritage sites by one of the country's leading teams of paranormal researchers.

For a full list of events happening at Aston Hall which include ghost hunts and family friendly halloween events, head over to their website for further information.

Get your haunt on this Halloween and plan your journey to some of the most haunted places in The West Midlands by bus. You never know what spooky sights may be around the corner!
