Bus-tastic Wythall Transport Museum events

Published: 19th August 2021

Do you love buses as much as we do?

Our friends over at the Transport Museum in Wythall have a few events happening that may be of interest. Grab your bus spotting checklist and save the dates for the events below!

West Midlands Municipal Monday - Monday 30th August 2021

Following the establishment of the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive in 1969, WMPTE (West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive) acquired the vehicles and other assets of the municipal fleets of Birmingham, Walsall, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton. Coventry joined the group a little later and slowly the unique liveries disappeared. We concentrate on the vehicles and their liveries of the municipals outside of the City of Birmingham. Private owners of vehicles from all four fleets are welcome to attend and the day will include the museum's renowned ‘Happy Hour’ with back to back services running to the Maypole.

Midland Red Day - Sunday 3rd October 2021

Transport Museum Wythall’s Midland Red special running event looks set to be a record day. The event commemorates 40 years since this iconic Birmingham based bus operator, one of the largest English bus companies, was split into six new regional entities in September 1981 by the National Bus Company.

On the event day the museum intends to run eleven of its own vehicles with many more visiting from private owners and collections. The Museum renowned ‘Happy Hour’ will be live at this event too!

Full details of all the museum’s vehicles listed above can be found here. Early booking for this unique event is recommended, just visit the website.

Twilight Running Day - Sunday 31st October

Discover the museum throughout the late afternoon and evening for the last day of the 2021 season. The Twilight running day will see the museum open until 6pm.
