National Express West Midlands want to provide an inclusive service on our bus network that is accessible to all, including customers with hidden disabilities.
National Express provides priority seating on all our buses which are clearly marked by labels adjacent to the seats and on the headrests of our newest buses. These seats are intended to be used by customers with sensory, mobility or cognitive impairments, customers with assistance animals and customers that are pregnant.
These seats are positioned near the bus entrance, have more leg room and include handrails and bells close by.
Our drivers and customer support team undergo disability awareness training that include a wide range of disabilities including hidden disabilities. They are also trained to recognise the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower and are there to help you if you need any assistance.
We recognise that living with Hidden Disabilities can make daily life more demanding for many people, but it can be difficult for others to recognise, acknowledge or understand the challenges faced. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower suggests happiness, positivity and strength and intends to allow everyone with Hidden Disabilities to choose to be subtly visible when they need to be.
For anyone who would like a lanyard please contact the National Express assisted travel team on 03717 81 81 81 (lines open 9am - 5pm 7 days a week), or email addl@nationalexpress.com. Further information on the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme can be found here
Customers can also make use of journey assistance cards. These cards have helpful messages written on them to support your communication while travelling.
You can get journey assistance cards delivered to you free of charge here.
